A bit of England in San Pedro

Whale & Ale brings some class to San Pedro. The food is always superb and the service is always friendly. Anyone looking for a wonderful time dinning out should discover The Whale & Ale. Wow. Terrific beer selection, live music on many of the weekends I've gone. I have had such a good time, I go back as often as possible. Sit by the fireplace, you'll feel as if you're in London. Dishes I've enjoyed include fish & chips, welsh rarebit, salmon, sticky toffee pudding, bread pudding. I had one of the best Beef wellingtons here - and they have a really impressive wine list for a 'pub'. The fish & chips are delicious. Fish, (Atlantic Cod), has a crisp, buttery batter surrounding perfectly flaky but firm white fish, and it comes with a glorious tartar sauce. The prime rib with horseradish is juicy and flavorful, and I'm a particular fan of the creamed spinach that comes with it. Try their house burger with blue cheese....it's absolutely delicious. The meat is superb, it tastes like ground steak, but the texture is perfectly tender and top notch. Beautifully oak-paneled place with aged decor. This place is different than most places in the area - and a good place for a change. Upstairs they have darts and a giant metal whale. And, yes, I mention bathrooms in almost every review. That's important to some people. The bathrooms here are numerous enough that you won't have to wait, and clean. Great service, great drinks, great food, AND the best salad dressing in the history of the world. It was on First Thursday in San Pedro, and the joint was jumping. They pretty much got slammed when we got there, and I think we were a part of that slam-fest. Not to worry, though, we were treated royally. The kids enjoyed Shirley Temples, fish & chips, pasta. My man and I loved the New Zealand Red Snapper with rice and Asian Veggies. We also had the chilled pea soup with spicy crabmeat - to die for!!! BTW, our Mommy & Daddy drinks were delish: Jack & Coke & Apple Martinis. More nectar. As always Andrew, the owner, was kind, charming and hard-working. The service was wonderful. Kudos to a great staff! We love this place, and so should you!!! If you haven't tried it, what are you waiting for? The neighborhood has a lot of cool stuff to check out. Get here and stroll, shop, eat/drink at the Whale & Ale, and stop off for a tatt on your way out of Peeedro.

    A true English pub

The Wahle and Ale brings the atmosphere of an English pub to the seaside town of San Pedro. If you are a fan of English food, you will find all of the usual suspects here, Bangers and Mash, Shepards Pie, etc. The Fish and Chips plate is among the best I have ever had, and the chips are large and cooked perfectly. Great tarter sauce too. Prime rib is coked to perfection and is available in three portion sizes, up to one that could feed a family! If you want to try something different, order the Beef Wellington which is also done to perfection. No matter what you order, make sure you try their salad with their house dressing. It is so good I wish they would bottle it. I could make a meal on just the salad. In fact, add chicken or calamari and it is just that, a meal. Make sure you leave room for dessert. English tripe and a warm a sticky fudge chocolate cake are great. If you just want a drink, the bar carries a great selection of imported beers and lagers. There is often entertainment on weekends and special dinners tied into shows at the Warner Grand Theater. A very nice place to eat.
