    Mixed feelings!

My most recent visit was for Sunday "Brunch" - actually lunch by any other name. The setting is lovely and the room pleasantly decorated for the holidays (same as last year!) but still with bare light bulbs, a pet peeve. Service was attentive but we were asked to select a dessert at the same time as the starter and main course - a coffee shop approach but without similar prices. There was no stinting on the bubbly (actually a Mumm Cuvee M, a pleasant California sparkler) and the food, while very pleasant and plenteous, did give rise to the question of "whether it's worth it?". The cost has no relationship to what goes in one's mouth and so, for food, the value was not good, indeed as value goes, it would be better at Norms. However, this is offset by being an oasis of tranquility and gentility, where service is (usually) excellent but not obsequious. Not a venue for regular dining but a brilliant respite from the hustle and bustle of metro Los Angeles. Highly recommended for leisurely evenings in pleasing (but not sumptuous) surroundings and particularly good for summer brunches and lunches - make it treat than a frequent visit.

    It could be better

Great location in a wonderful oasis. The place is impressive and so is the food presentation. The food is not. The service is great, but the stay is often very pleasant.
