Wouldn't pay extra for the "top Chef" name
We had a nice one month holiday in LA and surroundings and wanted to end in by having a special last night dinner with our local friend at Stefan's. The service was good from the beginning, but the food was unfortunately under average. For starters we had Oven Roasted Bone Marrow and Mushroom Ravioli. They were good, but could have been served anywhere. For the main course we had Sausage & Pork Jaw and Rack of Lamb. Both dishes were average – wouldn’t know that you are dining at “Top Chef’s kitchen”. For the dessert we had something with apple mixed with crumb pastry. Didn’t finish that. It is good if you’ll make it right – needs only apple and pastry (costs about 30 ct/piece to make it yourself). We were also very disappointed that the “Chef Stefan” didn’t come to salute us – although he knew he had visitors from Finland – and from Tampere – his “home city”, where he has restaurant as well (Stefan’s Steakhouse), which we’ve also visited. It was also a big surprise that they had 20 % tip which was automatically added to the bill… Maybe because they are afraid that people wouldn’t leave enough tip, when found the food under average… Certainly there is a “top Chef” extra in this restaurant and wouldn’t pay that anymore.
