I adore Main Street and LOVE L.A. I live two blocks away from Shoops. I have lived in this area for five years and this is the first review ive ever written. Until now, I have never felt the need to write a review because great food and awesome service speaks for itself. However, through the accumulation of bad experiences at Shoops-I would not return if even I were offered a free meal. I definitely believe Main Street is a great place to be when you care to steer clear of tourists on the pier and promenade. In the past five years, ive been to Shoops about eight times. Living a few blocks away, I usually just roll out of bed and head to the local restaurant and grab breakfast. Overall, I have received substandard service and cold food from Shoops. I am a guy who doesnt mind waking up to some cold left over pizza. Still, when in the mood for a nice warm breakfast plate or sandwich... thats exactly what im after. If I had to guess why the food is cold, id say that they let it sit on the counter far too long and or didnt cook it properly. Secondly, the place is small enough that consumers may hear conversations between the cooks and servers. On numerous occasions, I have witnessed a lack of team cooperation and concern. Plus, the portions are inconsistent and unfair sometimes. As you can tell, I am not a fan and I hope that they improve. Im tired of asserting my opinion to a staff that doesnt seem to care nor improve. Shoops only accepts cash and there is an ATM immediately next door at Bravos. May you have a pleasurable experience while in Santa Monica. 99% of our restaurants are extraordinary. Please come and check them out for yourself. I hope that my input is of service to both consumers and Shoops.

Great food and friendly service are key at this, the last German deli in West LA. Not sure why the first reviewer had a bad experience. I have shopped and eaten here many times and have always been pleased. Although it is occasionally out of stock, their speck (German smoked bacon) is one of the best I have had. Their selection is somewhat small, but better than none at all.

Shoop's is a great neighborhood deli with friendly service and a personal touch. Don't listen to the hater and check it out, sorry he had to walk two blocks!

If you like living in the 70's you'll love this restaurant. You can't bring your credit card, so you better have cash. So once you've added your ATM charge (2 blocks away for a working ATM) to the overpriced sandwiches, you can also be patronized by a staff that is ultimately rude. Their solution to not having services all restaurants provide? Don't come back. And I won't.
