I love Roll N Rye. I do live in the area and feel very fortunate to go there, feel welcomed by the warm and friendly waitreeses and waiters, and choose from the huge menu. There is not a dish there I haven't thought was deliious, FRESH, and served quickly. Even their beef is out of this world. I went to a restaurnt known for its steaks and ground meat burgers then ordered a ground beef sandwich at Roll N Rye and it was so much beter: better quality and delicious. Same with their prime rib:far more delicious than the one at the steak restaurant. They do not use short-cuts "get by", they go full out and serve fresh, quality food that is delicious and I love the clean and homey atmosphere. One of my favorite restaurants ever. I am really dumbfounded by any negative reviews here.

There is no reason that this restaurant charges as much as they do for the quality/quantity you get. If you want a good deli, go to Izzy's in Santa Monica. There you get what you pay for!

Ordered a quart of chicken noodle soup to go. There was barely a quarter of an ounce of chicken in it - very disappointing. Won't be going back.

I don't know what anonymous is talking about. Maybe they had their own sour look on their face and the server thought more sour bread would harm them :D Meantime, we used to get soups and sandwiches for our lunch meetings every few months when I worked at Avnet - the buildings that are probably now gone - on Washington Blvd -to the east of the temple. The food was awesome, always hot, always on time. Yummmm... I still hear the commercials for Roll n Rye on kabc.com - brings back tasty memories (I'm no longer in CA).

I read the reviews and thought this would be a good place to pick up a simple delicious meal. I walked in and was disappointed to see that the "charm" was that of a 1970s-decorated diner with vinyl seats and simple furnishings. Yes, there's half of a giant bagel in the ceiling, but it just looks kitchy. I opened the menu and gasped at the prices. Dinner entrees were around $17. I opted for a bowl of white clam chowder instead. The soup was thick, but bland and didn't taste of clams at all. In fact, it had a strange plastic taste. I also asked for sour dough bread to go with the soup. I got sliced bread of the "sandwich" variety. That, too, was bland - clearly lacking the signature "sour" that is indicated in the bread's name. Very disappointing.

Unless you're in the area or live close, Roll n Rye is a bit out of the way - but well worth the trip! There's plenty of parking, the waiters are wonderful, service is quick and the food is amazing! A bit on the pricey side, yes - but the portions are big and the food will fill you up. Everything about this place is great. If you haven't been there yet, don't wait any longer!
