    I can't take it any more

    We went to their Encino restaurant this evening for happy hour. The place was relatively empty when we were seated. My wife ordered wine which came in a water glass. We were told they ran out of wine glasses which sounded strange at 5:30 p.m. with an empty restaurant. We then placed our order and gave them a certificate for edamame which was free with the purchase of $20.00 or more in food. We received our dynamite california roll which was watered down and asked to have it replaced. The rest of the food was OK. We waited forever for the check and when it came it showed they had not deducted the edamame charge. So we waited another 5 minutes before we could wave down a server and informed him that we used a certificate and to re-do the check with the credit. We waited about 5 - 10 more minutes and saw that the waiter had just set our check down and forgot about it. My wife had to go over and ask him to do the credit and then we waited another 5 minutes. Finally my wife went to him again and asked for the check. He brought it over to the table without doing the credit. We finally gave up, payed the check and walked out. Mind you, we have eaten here about 30 to 40 times, about 2-3 times a month. We have found the food to be spotty and the service to be lacking most of the time. We have finally learned our lesson and decided you get what you pay for and will never be back.

    too much rice, too little fishes

    I eat at this restaurant with my boyfriend at least one per wk before it was remodeled. the sushi, price, services were always good. After the remodeled, the place was awesome. We were able to watch sport while we were eating. Last night I went out with my boyfriend as usual. We ordered the same thing as usual. The rolls come out with a thick layer of rice, a lot of cucumber, and very little fishes. Other special rolls were also poorly prepared. We complained but the waiter and the manager did not seem to care. When we got our bills, we realized that they give the 50% discount for all the sushi rolls. Apparently we were there during happy hours. so they give you a discount, and discount the amount of fishes that they put in your sushi. What is the point? I rather pay full price for a well prepare foods that waste $1 on subpar foods. Poor management decision. I would never go there again.

    My New Favorite!

    I absolutely love this place! I just went there last night and the atmosphere was great. It was a Tuesday night so it wasn't packed. It was very low key and there's tv that cover the walls of one side of the restaurant. And if there are seats available you can ask to be seated on that side. The service was great. They were very prompt with orders and servers came as soon as cups were emptied and plates began to stack. The food was incredible. The taste was amazing! I HATE eel but their Black Dragon Roll is to DIE for! Their presentation is awesome which shows they actually put in effort unlike many sushi places I have been to. And the best part is that the prices are UNBEATABLE! For the quality of food, the relaxing atmosphere and the very polite and speedy service.. paying $9 a roll is NOTHING!

    dropping like a rock

    I USED to LOVE octapus sushi, NOT ANY MORE! My wife and I went there several times a month to either the Glendale or Burbank location. For the last year or so I'm not sure if it is because of new owners but has this place gone down the drain! The service is the poorest I have experienced. The orders are always wrong and the staff hardly ever come by to check on the table. Oh and be prepared to wait 45 minutes to an hour after you are seated in an almost empty restaurant to be asked if you would like a drink. Recently i went there with friends who lived in Texas visiting here and they had good memories of Octapus and wanted to go there even though we told them about its recent problems. Needless to say the service was worse then i could have even imagined it was going to be. Find another place, because you are going to hate yourself for going here. too bad it used to be so good!!

    Worth it!

    Love this place have been going for several years. I can get two orders (nice pieces) Sushi, soup/edemame free for lunch for $5 plus. Service is very good and the bathrooms are super clean. The only thing that I would say is that I prefer my cut rolls cut wider (easier to pick up) and that I like my spicy tuna made to taste. Good food, good value, nice staff. Go!

    I love sushi

    This place is great, at least the one I went to, it has a great atmosphere, the attendants are nice, and if you go during happy hour the food is dirt cheap, 1$ beers and 1$ Sake. and the food is 50% off. I like to go there and usually when I order sake I ask for an extra shot glass serve up one for the Sushi Chef and 50% of the time I end up getting a free special role. Konpai is the word for cheers in japanese. Enjoy, this article is making me hungry....lol

    Service? Hah!

    While the food was okay, the service was amazingly poor the day we visited. There was no shortage of help and when we first arrived, they were not that busy. However, they were incredibly slow and they brought out all the non-sushi entrees way, way earlier than the sushi orders (it was apparent that they had forgotten the order). Then, they forget to bring the entire sushi order and we cancelled it. Also, it was a birthday celebration and we had brought a cake and they forgot to bring it out.
