Food superb, music disastrous
The food came really quick! Portions are rather small but very delicate. It all tastes amazing ! Really good quality. My squash zucchini and onion was cold though. The music was a disaster. Hard rock heavy guitar music in a sushi restaurant of that price range is totally inappropriate.

won't go back
friend and I were ordering when some jerk came in and insisted on sitting at our place in front of the sushi chef. This young, apparently rich punk goes there regularly and was not to be budged in his demand to be in my seat so the waitress asked us to move down. We should have left. What crust.

What dreams are made of!
My wife and I literally have dreams about the food here. We drive up two hours from La Jolla just to eat here. Some of their signature items like the baked crab roll and sticky rice with spicy tuna are classics! The best deal is coming early and sitting at the bar for Happy Hour

Used to be Amazing what happened
I live in NY and I go to LA a few times a year and my first stop is ALWAYS katsuya I absolutely loved the almond crusted scallops they were amazing... what happened last time i went a few months ago they were totally different they left the skin on the almonds and they werent the amazing scallops i dreamed of they were half the size... they weren't worth it to me... I HOPE THE OWNER READS THIS because you really should change the scallops back... also the creamy rock shrimp wasnt as good it was given to me cold and soggy!! I was so disappointed because i LOVED LOVED LOVED This place it was my favorite restaurant... the crispy rice was still good though but really im not gonna go back anymore.

surprised by mixed reviews
I have been to this place twice and both times were fabulous. The whole experience was wonderful. I love the food and drinks and the service was impeccable. The drink mentioned above is called the flaming madarin which is my new favorite. You cannot go wrong here for a great sushi experience and both times I saw celebrities which is great when you have out of town friends visiting!

Easy on the eyes, food not so good
Last week I went in for lunch, sitting at the sushi bar in back I ordered a bento box. While I was waiting I witnessed the sushi chefs make in assembly line fashion their top dishes, wrapping them in plastic and storing them to be served later that day. When the bento arrived the food was not to temperature. At these prices their food should be freshly prepared and served. Beautiful interior for sure!

best trendy sushi place ever
i too have been to every trendy sushi place in la and ny. katsuya is my fav. the food is consistently amazing. must haves include the baked crab hand roll, the sushi roll with garlic chip, the ceviche, albacore with crispy onions, scallops... honestly everything is amazing here. the cocktails are to die for as well. try the burning orange one. forget the name but it is delicious.
