Poor Service, Average Food
I've been to Izzy's a number of times with friends who insist on eating late night. It does a fine job in that sense, since it's open. But I always found the food to be very average for a deli. I recently thought I'd give it a try during the day to see what it would be like. Big mistake. SERVICE: POOR I sat at the counter one day and had to wait for way too long. I eventually asked the hostess for help and she said someone would come. But after a few minutes, nobody have come. I waited about 8 minutes total and decided to leave. I came back the next day to try again. Simple order: hot pastrami, hold the sides...and a potato kinish. I waited 20 minutes and the eventually a plate comes out with the sandwich. But they tell me that they have no kinishes. I went to Izzy's because they HAD knishes on the menu and only went for that reason since Santa Monica seems to be a desert when it comes to finding a knish. But rather then tell me when I ordered, they waited until the rest of the food came. So I did what would be expected: I walked away and went someplace else to eat.

Best Deli in LA...By Far
Izzy's Deli is by far the best deli in LA. Not only is this my opinion, but the Food Network selected it as the best deli on the West Coast! It is totally an authentic New York deli. The food is delicious, the portions are huge, the prices are extremely reasonable for the massive amount of food you get, and the staff is welcoming and friendly everytime I go! I often have the tuna melt, which is my favorite, but everything from the wraps and salads, to burgers and corned beef and pastrami sanwiches are fabulous. I have always been overly satisfied with my meal. I bring people there all the time and everyone is always happy! I definitely recommend Izzy's...it's the best deli in LA...by far!

Not recommended
A sad, sad place favored by Santa Monica city cops and couples looking for late-night munchies before heading home. Subpar soup, subpar sandwiches.

Good place, but service lacking
I came in after a late night movie (it was about 2am when it got out). The place is as lively as any restaurant in the day time, and the food wasn't too bad for the price. I had the pastrami and eggs breakfast dish, which was very good, and in large portions. The tea that came with the dish was brought in a little tea pouring container, with a teabag and two packages of honey. It also included english muffins and butter packets, but those were only so-so. Overall, the food is a good value for the price (although a little towards the pricey side). My big problem was with the service. I can understand being a little burned out at a graveyard shift, but he generally just did the bare minimum of what was needed. Generally, this place is a good place to go to. Parking is on the street, and you don't have to search around too much, especially at extremely late hours.
