I have vistited this resturant several times with virtually no complaints until the a few weeks ago. I took the advice of my waiter to order the shrimp and lobster risotto and was greatly disappointed. There was hardly any lobster or shrimp in it and it was very soupy with sauce that tasted like it was straight from the can. When my waiter came by he knew that I didn't like it so he never asked me how it was. I thought that was unprofessional as he was the one who suggested it. I proceded to order something different which was better but when I brought it up to the waiter about the high price of $21 for risotto and asked for them to take something off of the bill, management refused. I can honestly say that this was not the treatment that I expected as I am a regular customer and have recommended this resturant to many other friends of mine. The moral of this is always ask the price and don't be too shy to speak up and tell your waiter even if you have to track them down.

I love this little restaurant, and it's my "go to" place on special (and not so special) occasions. Here's why. For the most part, the staff are related and/or long time employees. It shows in the quality of service and ambience. I appreciate their attention to detail. The tapenade is top notch; the bread excellent; and I've never been disappointed with the entrees. When I order wine (and that's not often) I only drink the house wine, so I can't comment on the wine list, etc. I've never felt rushed. Great service without being 0fficious. This is my favorite restaurant in Malibu, and I've visited most all of them. It's a Malibu landmark and for good reasons.

The wine list leaves a lot to be desired. If their corkage was not so high $20 I would be a regular customer. If the wine list is lacking quality and value I need to bring something drinkable. Their food is consistently good but the waiter's verbal specials comprimises the ambiance. If you want to enjoy good wine with your meal there are a lot of restaurants that let you byob without much $$$$$ damage. Sorry Giovanni $20 for pulling a cork is just too much.

What an incredible value in Malibu. The gnocchi's are not quite like my grandmother, but truly outstanding and what a variety. The food is excellent, the service steady and not rushed...very attentive. The bread -WOW- real Italian bread. During a recent family vacation we went there twice during a one week visit. With all of the restaurants in LA my wife and kids begged me to take them back to Giovanni's. I love the place so it wasn't a hard sell!

you are confusing Giovannis with what it used to be under a different owner and different name: Spumonis. First off, this place is ridiculously UNDERpriced for the quality of the food: it's the best italian in los angeles. The wine selection is SUPERB, and cheap customers should not be surprised at the $20 corking fee. Of course the pasta portions vary, based on what you order. ambiance is charming but needs some work. i agree that the service is excellent. the food is consistently good and i don't know why this place isn't always packed. i recently went to one of their wine tasting dinners and it blew me away. I've already made a reservation for the next one...which isn't even planned yet! this is classy food run by classy people so don't be tacky and bring your own wine and then complain about the corking fee. if thats a problem, stay in the valley and go to olive garden

I was a regular until the corkage fee went ballistic from $5 to $20. Their own wine list is overpriced and mediocre. The pastas are all good but the portions vary from generous to low tide in a bowl. The entrees are somewhat overpriced with the exception of some of the chicken dishes which usually come in generous portions. The service is excellent. If you want to enjoy some good wine with your meal at a fair price you need to go elsewhere. They have been working on it for a long time under their third ownership but still don't have it right.

My wife and I drive up from La Jolla to go eat dinner. The tapenade is world class and the service is the best I have had in California.
