Great food. Wish the service was too.
I've lived in El Segundo for 26 years. Local restaurants are what make this town special. I've heard about Farm Stand for months, but went in my first time recently. Food was good. But the service did not justify the price. Being a waiter in the past, I was disappointed to not get acknowledged by the "2 minute follow up" when we first sat down. We asked for water, and our host said our waitress will get it for us. Our waitress walked by a few times over 5 minutes without saying a single word. We didn't know she was our waitress, otherwise we would have said something. A little "I'll be with you guys in a second" would have helped. But it was weird seeing 3 waitresses and only 7 tables... I would consider that by "far" from being slammed. The thing that ticked us off was that a couple who came in "after us" got their food before we did. We didn't get any recommendations either upon greeting us. After she dropped off our drinks, she left. Came back 5 minutes later and said "are you guys ready?". You'd think with a restaurant trying to be nice on Main Street, you'd at least be introduced to the restaurant favorites or daily specials. Also, our refills were filled by a host after we saw our waitress walk by numerous times without stopping, making eye contact, or acknowledging us. It was obvious with our empty glasses on the side of the table. Luckily our table next to us was a sweet couple who recommended something for us. They could tell we couldn't decide as we looked through the menu, and the couple made a recommendation to us. The food was GREAT. Also, we were honest enough to point out our bill was wrong (to our favor). She didn't say thanks. Our $45 dinner would have been less than $5 had we not said anything. Left a $6 tip at the end of the night. Maybe our waitress was just having a bad night. I would go back again, but if the service is the same, I don't think I'd go back for a 3rd time for the price the food is. She also messed up on our bill.

Substitutions
Atmosphere was nice. It is a fairly new place, and they are still looking for help (signs were up asking for people). Service was fine, but it was a half hour after they opened for dinner and they weren't busy yet. Service could suffer if it gets busy. I ordered a "Filet Mignon" and I was very disappointed. I hesitate to mention that the portion was large, because that was the first clue that the meat wasn’t really a filet. There was about a pound and a half of meat, and that would cost me $30 bucks at a butcher (the menu price was about $21.00), not to mention the mark up a restaurant would add. This meat was probably Tri Tip. The sauce was not bad, but the meat had a grainy texture that tri tip has. It was about 6 pieces of meat that were fairly thick, and they had slices cut in them to allow them to cook thoroughly. It was 6:00 pm, about a half hour after they opened, and the pile of shoestring fries were already soggy (were the left over from lunch?). They definitely haven’t lived up to the quality of Zazou. Sorry about that folks!

Great food unique recipes.
I went with my wife on a weeknight about 7:30pm. At first, it was crowded, but by the time we left around 9pm there was almost no one. I was surprised by the subtlety and quality of the dishes. I live in Long Beach. Although there is so much variety in the area I rarely find food as unique or as tasty as that of Farm Stand. The service was very friendly though at times a little slow. We had the melted brie and some yoghurt eggplant dish to start with. The eggplant dish reminded me of some similar dish I had eaten in a Turkish restaurant and had wanted to find again. But, everything else was so unique. For entrees I had the chicken cubide and my wife had the pomengranate stew. Both were giant portions that we were able to take home, though they were delicately seasoned. It's strange to find a place that has such quality food but humungous proportions. The chicken seemed to just melt in my mouth. The pomengranate stew was somehow more refined than similar dishes I have had in Persian restaurants. Maybe, it's the French touch. We spent the whole time outside in fthe garden seating , and the outdoor heaters kept us warm just fine. Anyway, restaurants like this one remind me of the emphasis on quality I grew accustomed to while living in Europe. I plan to eat there again.

New Taste in El Segundo
Farm stand is a delightful change in a town that is full of mainly, mexican food, little burger places and pizza restaurants. It had very fresh taste. I have been there many times and ha truly enjoyed all of my experiences there. It is a little expensive for el segundo casual dining, but definitly worth it for the quality. The caprisse sandwich is amazing, but beware it comes with an allotment of fries that could feed 10 people so I suggest that if you are dining with a friend then have one person order their meal with a salad and then one with fries, it wil be more than enough. Farm stand is a great addition to little main street.

Don't waste your time/money
Went there for lunch with my daughter. She had the salmon salad. Salmon was cooked in the deep fryer. Tasted like it was the same fryer they cook their french fries in. Taste was terrible, very fishy not fresh. I had a vegetable soup (creamy) that had no pizzaz and tasted boring. Bread arrived on my table 10 minutes after the soup was served and we had to ask for it twice. (Wasn't even busy). Then I had the meat loaf with mashed potatoes an gravy and vegatables. Vegetable (squash, peppers, were so over cooked they were slimy. Mashed potatos tasted like they came out of a package and gravy was almost non existent. Restaurant is so loud that it is almost impossible to have a normal conversation. The portions are actually huge, but this is a perfect example where quantity does not outweigh quality. The good news: I don't have to go there again..
