Was my favorite restaurant
Some of the shine has come off this place for me. I think many people can still enjoy it, but for a long time "Axe" was my response to "What's your favorite restaurant in LA?" Now, not so much. For me it's lost a little magic. Also, I met the owner and had such a surprisingly unpleasant experience with her that perhaps I'm having a hard time separating the two. But she does work in the dining room on occasion and comes in contact with guests - so I think it's fair to at least factor that in. But it's also loud, and is beginning to feel a little repetitive menu-wise. So this is a measured review. I think Axe is still a place to check out, particularly if you haven't been there. But for me it has definitely been downgraded on my list of favorite spots.
