Asuka The Best Sushi deal in LA

Wow. What happened to this place? I'm guessing a change in ownership. It used to be mediocre, but on a recent visit, the sushi was phenomenal. The menu looks like it's been totally revamped and the daily specials are so fresh and tasty. I will be dining here very often from now on. It's too bad the decor hasn't changed much. Maybe that's next.

A big fan. Fresh, upscale sushi!

I pretty much agree with Mark there, but I liked the interior and the atmosphere. Fine dining without pretension; very comfortable with great service. Asuka has easily become one of my regular "spots" in L.A. On my last visit, I had two orders of incredible Kobe Beef tataki sushi, a Blue Crab handroll, Spicy Tuna on a rice cake from the sushi bar; beef short-ribs and Japanese mushrooms from the charcoal grilled bar and Avocado salad. Enjoyed everything with cold Japanese black beer. Go at once!

    Quality sushi, great selection!

I work in one of the big office buildings near Asuka and have been there for lunch on occasion but was never that impressed. I went last week for lunch and was pleasantly surprised at how much the quality of sushi had gone up! Besides my old favorites (including a very generously portioned Uni), I had Blue Fin Toro sushi, which simply melted in my mouth. I love young yellowtail so I tried the Kono-Kanpachi (from Hawaii!) upon suggestion from my chef...also delicious. I had such a good experience I was back a few days later with my family for dinner. Service was great -- the staff remembered me! My wife was impressed with the wide selection of sushi. We had things we never heard of before like Shiitake Mushroom sushi (interesting and quite good!). The kids had fun watching the Lakers on TV and had some sweet yakitori chicken from the robata grill -- they had fun with the mochi ice cream too. The only drawback would be the decor, but all in all, highly recommended!
