This is what David Chang calls "figs on a plate" - the very definition of overhyped LA Dining Although some meats were noteworthy - Octopus was surprisingly crisp yet tender and flavourful on the inside, and the sausage allowed the rabbit and shrimp to play off each other nicely - others were just silly, being smothered in illogical and poorly thought out sauces(not fully cooked duck breast needlessly soaked in char siu, or the pig tail drenched in buffalo sauce. Garnishes and sides to the meat, added neither flavour or complexity to the dishes. Some of the food was even forced to hide behind mounds of fat (big disappointment with the fried brussel sprouts with pancetta....would have been great if not for the amount of fat used in making the dish - let alone in the ingredients) Oh and don't change the menu, as clearly they know what they are doing with food - (fruit salad with grilled quail). This is LA style at it's finest and most arrogant. Service was friendly yet amateur (literally timed servers coming every 2min to take our order). The conveyor belt feel is active right from the moment you first sit down. They really, really want you to eat, and leave. Men's bathroom was a sty. Only shining star: Bacon chocolate bar and S&P ice cream. This was clearly, the star of the evening. Michellin....stay away from this overhyped amateur attempt at a great idea. RL

In a bare bones environment. It is all about the food, and we loved pretty much everything, from the exquisite melon preparation to the trashy but oh so tasty foie gras with biscuits and gravy. And, of course, the tres leches cake.

So my friend and I decided to go to Animal to try the oh-so-famous Bacon Chocolate Crunch Bar. Little did we know that we should have made reservations...it's a very small space, very intimate and cozy. We decided we didn't want to wait an hour for a seat so we ordered our dessert at the bar and took it home. I was sadly disappointed. I expected too much I think - the chocolate was so disgustingly sweet and thick. And the portion...wow, really? For the price you're charging? I don't think so. I enjoyed the texture of the crunch from the bacon bits, but I could barely even taste that. So unfortunate. I will however return to try the food and hopefully have a better opinion on the restaurant.
