Go for Dine-in only
We thought we'd found IT! The Mexican restaurant for us. Closer than Casa Vega and a teensy bit cheaper to boot (though Casa Vega's windowless ambience is a bit more gothic and cool). We dined in twice, receiving excellent service by tuxedo clad waiters. Yes it's casual dining, but it retains an old school vibe, from the servers to the studded mustard leatherette booths. The salsa is spicy and flavorful, the chile rellenos and carnitas amazing. Everything I've had there is great. BUT when I wanted a little enchilada action for lunch one day and ordered take out, things fell apart. First there was a mysterious $1 charge that the manager (who appears to be the late proprietor's widow) would not explain. Maybe it was the language barrier but she didn't bother to find someone who could explain it to me either. I decided to let it go. Then I checked the bag and there were no chips and salsa. I asked for them and she tried to charge me $3.50. For something that's free if I were sitting at a table, using up valuable server time, causing dirty dishes, etc etc. A restaurant should never punish people for ordering take out; it should be welcomed as the easy, quick money it is.
