    Mediocre Mexican

I went to UCLA and so have been to Acapulco a few times, never willingly. The food is not authentic, which is something I can forgive if it is good, but it is not good either. It is the same type and quality of mexican food that you'll find in hundreds of similar restaurants around Los Angeles. The enchiladas are OK. The chile rellenos are not bad. The fajitas are decent. Overall I'd say the food is better than a crappy mega-chain like Chili's but still far from a half way decent taqueria. Their margaritas are very sweet and used to be very weak. The last time I went I was surprised by how strong they were but I don't know if they changed the recipe or if I went on a good night. They were still so sweet I could only drink two of them but at least I could taste the tequila. The price is about what you expect for a middle class mexican place. A two item combo is 10-13, fajitas or seafood items slightly more. The prices on alcohol are a bit high but that's the case at most places in Westwood. They card religiously, also an unavoidable characteristic of the area around UCLA. I forgot my license once and couldn't even get a cup to fill from our pitcher, despite having been there many times. When I write a bad review I usually try to list some places nearby that I think are better, but unfortunately Westwood suffers from a severe lack of good mexican food. My favorite, closest mexican place is Tacomiendo down on Pico. It is cheaper and the food is better but its a small, order-at-the-counter type joint so its not really fair to compare it to Acapulco. For something a little more upscale I'd recommend Paco's Tacos at Centinela and Washington. It's on par with Acapulco for price but the decor is more authentic and the food is much better.
